Koko Analytics has a new logo

Koko Analytics has a new logo! After almost seven years of loyal service, our red icon is retiring. A calmer navy-and-teal mark is taking its place.

Why change it?

The old red circle has been with us since the very first release in 2019. I spent at most 5 minutes on it and then it stuck around for almost seven years. Meanwhile, Koko Analytics grew from a tiny privacy-friendly pageview counter into a full-fledged analytics plugin that is currently used on more than 60,000 WordPress sites. The logo never quite caught up.

There was another reason. Over the years, more than one of you told us you were “getting an eye sore from the red on our website”. Ouch. People have strong opinions about red, as it turns out. It is the color of error messages, warning lights and overdrawn bank accounts. Not exactly what you want to stare at while calmly checking your website statistics.

A bit of trivia: Koko Analytics is named after Koko, our family dog. Naturally, we briefly considered featuring a dog in the new logo. Especially after Danny’s daughter submitted a concept turning the last “O” in Koko into a dog. But if people have strong opinions about red, you should hear the opinions they have about dogs. We decided to abandon the idea altogether and stick to the problem we are aiming to solve: website analytics.

The new mark

The new icon is a letter K with a chart line running through it, forming a little mountain. A rising chart is what we wish upon every website running our plugin. And as far as we know, nobody has strong opinions about mountains.

It comes with a new color palette: a deep navy and a calm teal.

Where you’ll see it

The new logo is already live on this website, and the WordPress plugin ships with the new logo and icon since version 2.5.1. Everything else will follow over the coming weeks. No action is needed on your end. Your stats will keep counting away as always, just under a friendlier flag.

If you’ve written about Koko Analytics or feature our logo somewhere: thank you! We’d appreciate it if you swapped the old red icon for the new one. You can download the new logo, icon and colors in all formats from our brand assets page.
